The African Union of Broadcasting, in partnership with UNESCO, will hold a Media Development and Training Conference for African Small Island Developing States in Mauritius from 27 to 29 October 2025.
The conference aims to promote resilient, responsible and ethical reporting on climate change and disaster-risk reduction while responding to misinformation and the growing impact of cyclones, coastal erosion and other extreme weather events.
Hosted with the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation, the event will address solutions journalism, investigative reporting, the role of media regulators, and tools for covering extreme weather and impact-based forecasting.
Participating organisations will present and validate institutional disaster preparedness and response plans, review cross-border co-productions, and take part in field visits and simulation exercises.
Participants will include journalists, media executives, trainers, regulators, disaster-management agencies and representatives of UNESCO, UNDRR, civil society and the Government of Mauritius.
